Consent Set Up Wrong Hides Conversions Without an Error.
BlazeByte sets up Google consent mode V2 for sites running Google Ads or GA4 with visitors in the EEA. Consent mode V2 passes each visitor's cookie choice to Google tags, so they collect only what was allowed. Version 2 adds two advertising signals, ad_user_data and ad_personalization, which Google requires for EEA visitors. Without these signals, Google Ads loses measurement, remarketing and ad personalization for those visitors. BlazeByte verifies the setup by testing accept, decline and change of mind on two pages in Tag Assistant.

The visitor's choice reaches every tag, on every page
The choice is lost after the first page
We found exactly this in a client audit: the consent state reset to denied on every page after the first, so GA4 ecommerce tags were blocked even for visitors who had accepted. Nothing errored. The numbers were simply lower.
Tracking looks great, thank you Haider! Really thorough build.
We check your banner, consent states and tags, then show you the gap. No cost.
Consent Mode V2, Set Up and Proven to Work
You are buying consent states that hold on every page. You are not buying a banner.
We Test What Consent Does Today. Then We Make It Hold.
We never install consent mode blind. Every setup starts by recording what your consent states actually do.
Consent Audit
We record what your consent setup does todayWe load your site with the banner untouched, accept, decline and move between pages, and record every consent state and every tag that fires.
What this step includes
- Consent states read in Tag Assistant on several pages
- Tags that fire before or without consent
- A written list of what holds, what resets and what is missing
Basic or Advanced
You choose, with your legal teamWe explain what each version sends when a visitor declines, so your legal team can decide which one is acceptable in your markets.
What this step includes
- A plain comparison of basic and advanced for your site
- Region defaults to match your legal advice
- No legal advice from us: the decision is yours
Implementation
We set the defaults, updates and tag checksWe add the default command before any tag sends data, connect the banner update, and set consent checks on every tag in your container.
What this step includes
- Default states for all four signals, by region if needed
- Banner update wired through gtag.js or Google Tag Manager
- Consent settings on Google and third-party tags
Testing and Handover
We prove it works before we leaveWe test accept, decline and change of mind across pages, send a test Conversion, and check the status in Google Ads.
What this step includes
- Two-page consent test, accept and decline sessions
- Test Conversion confirmed in GA4 and Google Ads
- Written handover and re-test steps

Questions About Consent Mode V2 Setup
Do you set up consent mode V2 with my existing cookie banner?
Yes. We connect consent mode to the banner you already use, whether it is a Google-certified consent platform or a custom banner. We set the default states, wire the update when a visitor chooses, and test that the choice holds on every page, using the default states Google documents. If you have no banner yet, the Starter setup installs and configures a consent platform such as Cookiebot, CookieYes or Complianz.
Do you work with Google Tag Manager or gtag.js?
Both. We set the defaults and updates through Google Tag Manager or directly in gtag.js, whichever your site uses. In Tag Manager, Google tags keep their built-in consent checks and every other tag gets consent settings of its own.
Will you set up basic or advanced consent mode?
We recommend a version with the reason, and set up the one your legal team approves. Basic blocks Google tags until a visitor chooses; advanced loads them with consent denied and sends cookieless pings. We explain what each one sends on your site so the decision is informed, and our guide covers advanced vs basic in full.
How do you test that consent mode V2 is working?
We test it on two pages, not one. We read the consent states in Tag Assistant before and after accepting, decline in a fresh session, and send a test Conversion to confirm it reaches GA4 and Google Ads. We also check the consent status Google Ads reports for the account.
Will consent mode reduce the conversions I see?
Visitors who decline are not observed, whichever version you use. Modeling can estimate some of those conversions, but nothing recovers them as observed data. We compare your platform conversions with your own orders or leads, so you know how much of a gap is consent and how much is a tracking fault.
What if my consent state resets between pages?
We find where the state is lost, fix it, and re-test the whole journey to checkout. In one client audit the consent state reset to denied on every page after the first, blocking GA4 ecommerce tags even for visitors who had accepted. A reset fails silently: nothing errors, and the numbers are simply lower.
Can you add consent mode to a tracking package I already have?
Yes. Consent mode V2 is an add-on from $299 to Google Ads Conversion Tracking, Conversion Tracking, Meta Pixel and CAPI, or GA4 and GTM Starter. GA4 and GTM Growth and Scale already include it. Adding it during a build means consent is tested together with every tag.
Do you give legal advice on consent?
No. We implement the consent rules your legal team decides, and we explain what each setting sends so they can decide. Which consent you need depends on your markets and your privacy law. A free tracking audit shows what your current setup does today.
Consent Is One Layer Of Your Measurement Stack.
Consent mode decides what Google may measure. The rest of the stack makes sure what it measures is right.
GA4 and GTM Setup
Consent mode runs through your tags. GA4 and Google Tag Manager are where those tags live, so a clean setup comes first.
